Installation Requirements
Foundation Preparation
A properly prepared foundation is essential to support the tank safely when full.
Recommended Base
- Install the tank on a solid, level, and fully supported foundation.
- Suitable foundation options include:
- Reinforced concrete pad
- Compacted crushed gravel topped with a concrete paver
- Engineered tank stand designed for the tank’s capacity
- The entire base of the tank must be uniformly supported to prevent distortion.
- The foundation should be capable of supporting the combined weight of the tank and stored water.
Avoid
- Uneven or sloping surfaces
- Loose soil or uncompacted gravel
- Wooden pallets
- Individual bricks or concrete blocks used as supports
- Areas prone to erosion or ground settlement
Tank Positioning
The slimline design allows the tank to pass through standard doorways, making it ideal for installations with restricted access.
Positioning Recommendations
- Install the tank in a vertical orientation only.
- Position the tank on a level surface.
- Ensure adequate clearance around the tank for plumbing connections and future maintenance.
- Place the access lid where it can be easily opened for inspection and cleaning.
- If installed outdoors, position the tank where water can drain freely away from the foundation.
Suitable installation locations include:
- Residential properties
- Rural water systems
- Garages and utility rooms
- Workshops
- Agricultural buildings
- Rainwater harvesting systems
Inlet Connection
Connect the inlet pipe using plumbing appropriate for the intended application.
Best Practices
- Support all external pipework independently to prevent stress on the tank.
- Use compatible fittings and thread sealant where appropriate.
- Avoid overtightening threaded connections.
- Install isolation valves where future maintenance may be required.
- If collecting rainwater, install a leaf screen or pre-filter upstream to reduce debris entering the tank.
Outlet Connection
The tank is supplied with one 1-inch bulkhead fitting.
Installation Recommendations
- Connect compatible 1-inch plumbing to the bulkhead fitting.
- Use potable-water-approved fittings if the tank is used for drinking water storage.
- Support downstream piping independently of the tank.
- Install a shut-off valve near the outlet to simplify servicing and maintenance.
- After filling the tank, inspect the bulkhead fitting and connections for leaks.
Overflow Installation
Although an overflow fitting is not included as a standard feature, an overflow connection is recommended where applicable.
Overflow Best Practices
- Route overflow water away from building foundations.
- Discharge overflow to:
- Stormwater drainage
- Soakaway or infiltration system
- Approved drainage location
- Ensure the overflow remains free from obstructions.
- Fit an insect screen where appropriate to prevent pests from entering the system.
Maintenance Access
Provide sufficient space around the tank to allow routine inspection and servicing.
Recommended Minimum Clearances
| Location | Recommended Clearance |
|---|---|
| Above access lid | 18–24 in (450–600 mm) |
| Around tank sides | Minimum 12 in (300 mm) |
| Around plumbing connections | Sufficient space for inspection and maintenance |
Adequate access allows for:
- Interior cleaning
- Lid removal
- Plumbing inspection
- Bulkhead servicing
- Leak detection
Safety Recommendations
For safe installation and operation:
- Install only on a stable, level foundation.
- Never allow attached pipework to support the weight of the tank.
- Do not climb, stand, or place heavy loads on the tank.
- Protect the tank from vehicle impact or other mechanical damage.
- Keep the access lid securely closed when the tank is not being serviced.
- Follow all applicable local plumbing and building codes.
- When storing potable water, maintain appropriate sanitary practices to preserve water quality.
General Installation Best Practices
- Inspect the tank for shipping damage before installation.
- Confirm the foundation is level before positioning the tank.
- Verify that all fittings are secure before filling.
- Fill the tank gradually while checking all plumbing connections for leaks.
- Periodically inspect the tank, fittings, and support surface for signs of wear or movement.
- Clean the tank as needed based on water quality and intended use.
- If optional bulkheads are installed, ensure they are properly sealed and tested for leaks before the system is placed into service.
