Description

WISY Vortex 150 Rainwater Prefilter

Product Overview

The WISY Vortex 150 Rainwater Prefilter is a self-cleaning rainwater prefiltration system designed to efficiently separate debris from harvested rainwater before it enters a storage tank. Suitable for roof catchment areas of up to 5,500 ft² (511 m²), it helps improve water quality by removing leaves, dirt, and other contaminants while maintaining high filtration efficiency.

For larger roof catchment areas, multiple WFF150 units can be installed in parallel to accommodate increased flow capacity.

Note: The WISY Vortex 150 Rainwater Prefilter is not recommended for green roof applications, where fine organic material may reduce filtration performance.

How It Works

Rainwater enters the prefilter through the inlet and is directed into the vortex chamber.

During the initial flow, the first flush of rainwater carries accumulated debris across the filter mesh and out through the debris outlet. As the stainless-steel filter mesh becomes fully wetted, clean rainwater passes through the mesh and flows to the storage tank.

A portion of the water continues through the debris outlet, continuously rinsing the filter surface. This self-cleaning action minimizes maintenance while helping maintain consistent filtration performance.

The prefilter also provides several water quality benefits:

  • Removes leaves, dirt, and suspended solids before storage
  • Reduces bacteria by removing organic material that supports bacterial growth
  • Aerates incoming rainwater, increasing dissolved oxygen
  • Helps oxidize dissolved metals such as iron, allowing them to separate and be removed through downstream overflow systems

Installation Requirements

The WISY Vortex 150 must be installed vertically to ensure proper vortex action and self-cleaning performance.

Required Elevation Differences

  • Inlet to Debris Outlet: 20 in (508 mm)
  • Inlet to Clean Water Outlet: 10.5 in (267 mm)

Maintain these elevation differences during installation to achieve the specified filtration efficiency.
