Description:

Introducing the powerful WISY WFF300 Vortex Rainwater Filter, your ultimate solution for efficient rainwater management in large-scale applications. Engineered to handle up to 32,290 sq. ft. of roof area, this filter effectively separates solids from water, making it ideal for industrial water treatment or large building projects.

Perfect for both above and below ground collection systems, the WFF300 directs debris away from stormwater while diverting up to 95% of filtered rainwater to storage tanks. Multiple units can be seamlessly integrated to cover even larger roof areas, ensuring maximum water utilization for irrigation, toilet flushing, janitorial needs, and more.

For projects with piping elevation constraints, consider the Short WFF300 variant, which offers a reduced inlet and outlet elevation height difference for enhanced flexibility. Elevate your rainwater harvesting capabilities with the WISY WFF300 Vortex Filter, designed for reliability and sustainability in every drop.

Design:

Experience the innovative efficiency of the WISY WFF300 Vortex Rainwater Filter, where technology meets sustainability. As rainwater flows through the horizontal inlet pipe, it enters the filter in a dynamic vortex motion, harnessing water’s natural adhesive forces. This process drives the water through a vertical fine filter, ensuring only clean water passes through to your storage tank while filtered dirt particles are directed to the storm drain.

Achieving optimal performance, the filter insert reaches peak efficiency once its mesh is fully saturated, typically within 2 minutes from initial use. This feature makes the WFF300 an ideal “first flush” rainwater pre-filter, meeting stringent standards like ARCSA/ASPE/ANSI Standard 63 for Rainwater Catchment Systems.

Enhance your rainwater harvesting system with the WISY WFF300 Vortex Filter—where reliability, efficiency, and sustainability converge to elevate your water management capabilities.

Installation Instructions

Installation Orientation

The WISY WFF300 is designed to operate in a vertical orientation. Proper positioning is essential to achieve the vortex separation effect and maintain the specified filtration efficiency.

  • Install the filter with the housing standing perfectly vertical.
  • The 12-inch inlet must be aligned with the incoming rainwater pipe.
  • The 8-inch filtered water outlet must point toward the rainwater storage tank or cistern.
  • The 12-inch debris outlet must discharge to the storm drain, soakaway, or approved drainage system.
  • Observe the required elevation difference between the inlet and filtered water outlet:
    • Standard WFF300: 18.25 in (464 mm)
    • Short WFF300: 12.6 in (320 mm)
  • Install the unit on a stable, level foundation capable of supporting the operating weight.
  • Do not install the filter tilted or horizontally, as this will reduce filtration performance.

Recommended Pipe Connections

For optimum hydraulic performance:

Connection Size Recommendation
Rainwater Inlet 12 in Connect directly from the roof drainage/downpipe manifold using gravity flow.
Filtered Water Outlet 8 in Connect to the storage tank with a continuous downward slope where possible.
Debris Outlet 12 in Connect to storm sewer, soakaway, or approved drainage system. Do not restrict this outlet.

Installation Recommendations

  • Maintain gravity flow throughout the system whenever possible.
  • Avoid sharp 90° bends immediately before the inlet. Use long-radius bends where practical.
  • Ensure all pipework is properly supported to prevent stress on the filter housing.
  • Install isolation valves downstream if required for servicing the storage system.
  • Do not reduce pipe diameters below the specified connection sizes unless approved by the system designer.
  • Where multiple filters are required for larger catchment areas, install the units in parallel to evenly distribute flow.

Maintenance Access Requirements

Allow sufficient clearance around the filter to simplify inspection and servicing.

Recommended minimum clearances:

  • Top clearance: Minimum 24 in (600 mm) for removing the filter insert.
  • Side clearance: Minimum 12 in (300 mm) around the housing.
  • Ensure unobstructed access to:
    • Housing cover
    • Lifting handle
    • Stainless steel filter insert
    • Debris outlet
  • Do not permanently concrete over or obstruct the removable cover.
  • If installed below grade, use an extension tube where necessary to maintain convenient access from finished grade.

Maintenance and Servicing

Routine maintenance helps maintain filtration efficiency above 90%.

Inspection

  • Inspect the filter after the first few significant rainfall events.
  • Thereafter inspect:
    • Every 3–6 months under normal operating conditions.
    • Monthly during heavy leaf fall or periods of high organic debris.
    • After major storms or unusually heavy rainfall.

Cleaning

  1. Remove the housing cover.
  2. Lift out the stainless-steel filter insert using the lifting handle.
  3. Rinse the filter mesh with clean water.
  4. Remove accumulated debris from the housing.
  5. Check the EPDM sealing rings for wear or damage.
  6. Reinstall the filter insert and secure the housing cover.

Do not use metal brushes or aggressive chemicals that may damage the stainless-steel mesh or polypropylene housing.

Technical Consistency Notes

The specifications are generally consistent. Two minor clarifications are recommended for publication:

  1. State the collection area as 32,290 ft² (3,000 m²) to provide both imperial and metric values.
  2. Express the filtration performance consistently as “Over 90% filtration efficiency at flow rates up to 222 GPM (14 L/s)” to avoid confusion between maximum flow capacity and filtration efficiency.
